The St Bride Library is a wonderful resource for learners of all ages from students, academics, designers and print enthusiasts interested in studying a variety of subjects from graphic design, history of the book, journalism and much more.

Group Visits to the Library

We encourage higher education institutions as well as Lifelong learners to come and learn about our archives and printing artefacts.

We offer tailor made visits to fit the needs of each group of visitors.

During a 2 hour visit to the Library, Nigel Roche, the library’s Head Librarian will take your group on a journey through the history of printing. The lecture (tailored to your relevant area of study) may include discussion on styles of printing type, construction of a common press, wooden vs. iron presses, ink making, or an introduction to typography.

Examples from our collections will be used to illustrate the lecture based on your group’s area of interest. Time will be set aside for the group to view the current exhibition and five printing presses in our exhibition room. An introduction to the library’s collections and the opportunity to visit the reading room ends the visit to the library.

Please note that we are currently unable to offer printing workshops and demonstrations. We are in the process of creating a space for hands-on printing workshops and demonstrations which will allow students and professionals alike the opportunity to get their hands dirty and create their own letterpress print. We hope to be in the position to open the space in 2012. For more information on how you can help with the design and implementation or if you have any suggestions, please contact Kristina Nilles on 0207 353 3331.
